PRESIDENT'S WELCOME

I am delighted as president of Gort RFC to welcome members, players, supporters, sponsors and visitors to our web site.

Gort RFC was originally formed in the early 1900's. It disbanded in the late 1930s and was reformed in 1972.

Many people, too numerous to mention have played and served down through the years and it is important that we acknowledge that there would not be a club today were it not for them. Many lifelong friendships were formed both by playing and after match celebrations. Some of our older members will remember fondly the sing-song sessions after games in Kilroy's Bar. One observer once remarked that "you'd never know whether they won or lost".

Success on the playing field was limited until promotion to Junior League Div 1 in 1996/97, along with an Ard na Creg cup in the same year. Playing in Div 1 produced teams capable of competing with the best junior sides in Connaught which culminated in our historic Junior Cup victory in 2003/2004. There have also been successes at underage level.

Gort RFC now fields team teams at under-8, under-10, under-12, under-14, under-16, under-18 and at adult level.

The fielding of these teams would not be possible without the efforts of the many people who give their time selflessly by coaching, fundraising and administration and we are always looking for more people to get involved, even if they have little knowledge of the game. I would like to encourage past players who had many enjoyable playing days to come back and give a little.

The future is bright for Gort RFC and I would like to extend my best wishes to past, present and future members.
